Transforming The World’s Agrifood Systems Starts With Reducing Emissions

At COP28, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) launched a groundbreaking plan aimed at transforming the world’s agrifood systems by 2050.


Agrifood systems encompass how the food we eat is farmed or raised, how it is transported, and how and where leftovers are disposed. A quarter of emissions generated by these systems is directly linked to energy production, so reducing emissions plays a key role in achieving food security for the future.


The FAO plan is an opportunity for policymakers to act, civil society to be mobilized, and especially for the private sector to make better choices today to ensure more sustainable and profitable results.
